Birmingham, Alabama resident Rachel Sims Turner has worked and studied in various parts of the U.S. and is using her talents and experience to earn a top-notch position in media/public relations. Rachel Sims Turner tailored her education and her work experience toward a career in which she would be able to utilize her many talents. After holding a summer job at Highlands United Methodist Church, Rachel Sims Turner decided to find work more in line with her career goals. In summer 2004, Rachel Sims Turner began working as a fulltime Journalism Intern at Southern Living magazine in Birmingham, the city she now calls home. Her position at Southern Living magazine gave Rachel Sims Turner plenty of hands-on experience. She assisted editors, photographers, and photo stylists at photo shoots and wrote several articles for Southword, the magazine’s internal corporate publication. Rachel Sims Turner later moved on to a position at the widely known women’s publication Glamour magazine. At Glamour, Rachel Sims Turner held the title of Fashion Department Intern and reported to the magazine’s office in New York, NY. During her time at Glamour, Rachel Sims Turner was a recipient of the Rouse-Bottom Foundation Journalism Internship Grant. Subsequently, Rachel Sims Turner held positions at Casablanca Records and Country Music Television. In the midst of her internships, Rachel Sims Turner remained a studious college student. She was a Journalism and Mass Communications major at Virginia’s Washington and Lee University. In 2006, Rachel Sims Turner graduated cum laude, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree. Rachel Sims Turner continued her education by enrolling at the University of Georgia to earn her Master’s degree in Public Relations. Rachel Sims Turner was also selected to serve as a student judge for the prestigious Peabody Awards, founded at the University of Georgia, in both 2008 and 2009. In this role, she also attended the Peabody Awards ceremony in New York City, where she escorted talent and worked the press line. Between her education and her job experience, Rachel Sims Turner has garnered extensive computer skills, including familiarity with InDesign, Quark, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, FrontPage, InMagic, Internet research, and social media networking.
