Rakesh Sood, Venture Advisor at Docomo Capital
Upon receiving his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Rakesh Sood entered the business world by serving in various executive positions for Silicon Valley-based companies Intel Corporation, AT&T, and Hewlett-Packard. A professional in marketing and sales, Rakesh Sood eventually became a financial research analyst on Wall Street. Rakesh Sood found employment with Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management LLC in San Francisco, California, as a Senior Technology Analyst. During the beginning of the Internet boom, Rakesh Sood wrote one of the first articles about the impact of the new medium on global commerce. Seeking new online companies to fund, Rakesh Sood helped Netscape Communications, Check Point Software, and UUNET gain prominence with institutional investors, with eventual culmination in IPOs. Under Rakesh Sood’s advice, Hambrecht & Quist Capital Management LLC began involvement in wireless technologies. Rakesh Sood next accepted the responsibilities of Vice President and Senior Research Analyst with Goldman, Sachs & Co., in New York, New York. A top-ranked analyst for three consecutive years, Rakesh Sood focused his efforts on Internet and e-commerce businesses. Goldman, Sachs & Co. sought Rakesh Sood’s guidance on private equity investments and developing IPOs and secondary offerings for businesses such as e-Bay, Priceline.com, and Portal Software. Subsequent to his experience with Goldman, Sachs & Co., Rakesh Sood became a venture capitalist providing companies in California with his insights. A former General Partner with Sprout Group and Reed Elsevier Ventures, Rakesh Sood currently serves as a Venture Advisor for DOCOMO Capital, providing start-up companies with the funding they need to expand.

Rakesh Sood serves the Palo Alto venture capital firm DOCOMO Capital, Inc., where he acts as a Senior Venture Adviser. In addition to his various duties at DOCOMO, Rakesh Sood maintains professional ties with many organizations, one of which is the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley.
The Telecom Council of Silicon Valley joins individuals and companies that are involved in the communications technology sector and promotes collaboration, education, and business development. Known as a hub for telecom professionals, the Council brings together the community’s businesses, research, human know-how, capital, and ideas through meetings and networking opportunities.
Consisting of more than 500 companies, the Silicon Valley telecom industry employs more than 100,000 individuals. The Mobile Forum brings together representatives from the wireless and mobility sectors. The Service Provider Forum encourages fixed and wireless carriers to pursue opportunities in investment, partnerships, and new technology. Each year, the SPIFFY Awards recognize the best telecom startups from the prior year.
The Entrepreneur Forum holds meetings for 25 to 45 entrepreneurs to help young businesses grow and build relationships in the community. The Investor Forum reviews start-ups and provides investment information for venture capitalists, strategic corporate investors, and angel investors. The Council member benefits number many. The organization helps professionals save time and money by providing critical networking opportunities. Membership in the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley is more effective than most advertising campaigns and cold-calling by providing a direct line and interaction with decision makers in other companies. In addition, the Council provides information tailored to different telecommunications sectors, keeps members abreast of news and changes in the industry, and provides business owners with a long-term professional network of companies they should know.
