  • Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), Ralph Adamo
    July, 2010
I am proud to support the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), a facility that first opened its doors in 1964 and has since upheld the highest standards of medical care. Today, CHOC operates a main hospital in Orange, another facility in Mission Viejo, and five community clinics around the county. Over the past four decades, CHOC has received a significant amount of recognition for its services. In all of California, CHOC is the only children’s hospital to earn the California Council for Excellence’s Silver Level CAPE Award for superior performance. On the national level, CHOC’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is the first pediatric unit in the United States to be honored with the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, given by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. In 2008, CHOC was presented with the Ventana Research Overall Business Performance Leadership Award, which applauded the hospital’s ability to manage information, technology, and human resources in order to create a highly effective business process. Recently, CHOC administrators, physicians, and patients joined with the local community to launch the “Change CHOC, Change the World” campaign. CHOC’s new campaign marks its renewed commitment to becoming one of the world’s top pediatric institutions. In addition to establishing a substantial endowment for recruiting pediatric experts, the campaign will fund the construction of a new seven-story hospital tower, outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment. In support of tertiary and quaternary pediatric care, the tower will feature private rooms, comfortable family amenities, and open spaces that promote healing. The new facility is set to open its doors to the public at the end of the “Change CHOC, Change the World” campaign in Spring 2013. The CHOC campaign also strengthens the ties between CHOC and the University of California, Irvine’s School of Medicine, thereby increasing the research capacity of both institutions.
