A Chicago native and recent graduate of Morgan Park Academy, Raihan Sayeed currently attends Loyola University Chicago. Established in Chicago in 1870 as St. Ignatius College, Loyola University Chicago is a private Jesuit university with four campuses both in Illinois and abroad. With more than 6,000 graduate students and nearly 10,000 undergraduates, Loyola University Chicago is the largest Jesuit university in the United States.

During the first decade of the 20th century, St. Ignatius College opened the doors of its School of Law, the first professional program established by the University. After changing its name to Loyola University Chicago in 1909, the university added the Stritch School of Medicine in the same year and affiliated with the Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1923. By the 1960s, Loyola University Chicago had expanded to include the Jesuit School of Theology and the School of Nursing. In 1962, Loyola University Chicago was the first American university to establish a sponsored study abroad program in Rome, Italy.

The Lake Shore Campus, which is the main Loyola University Chicago campus, is situated in the northernmost neighborhood in Chicago. In recent years, the university administration has made plans to revitalize the area around the Lake Shore Campus by building an arts center and retail district near the school’s subway stop. The Water Tower Campus, one of the secondary Loyola University Chicago campuses, gets its name from one of the only buildings to survive the Chicago Fire of 1871. A number of academic departments call the Water Tower Campus their home, including the School of Business Administration, School of Social Work, and School of Law. In addition to its campus in Rome, Loyola University Chicago also maintains the Loyola University Medical Center, which has earned widespread acclaim for its work with open-heart surgery, kidney transplants, burn victim care, and micro-neurosurgery.

Students at Loyola University Chicago participate in a number of activities on campus. Greek letter organizations play a role in the social scene, with three IFC fraternities, five Panhellenic Council sororities, and a host of cultural interest groups. Athletic teams at Loyola University Chicago compete in NCAA Division I as the Ramblers, a name the school has used since 1926.
