new to bigsight58, Santa Rosa, CaliforniaRichard Lang is an American pioneer in the technology industry and is currently the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Burst.com, Inc. In 1983, Richard Lang launched his first public company, Go-Video, and patented and produced the world’s first dual-deck VCR, successfully breaking the Japanese monopoly on video cassette/videocassette recorders. After Go-Video, in 1987, Lang turned to his next visionary idea – networked, electronic delivery of video and audio2. He designed a system to distribute video electronically, in rapid bursts, eliminating the need for tapes and DVDs or for long download times. Lang eventually received more than 32 issued patents worldwide [3] in network optimization and electronic media delivery. To commercialize the technology, Lang co-founded Explore Technology in 1990 – later re-named Burst.com. World rock sensation U2 invested $2 million dollars in the venture and, soon thereafter, Burst.com became a public company. However, when Burst.com, Inc., established a technological foundation for today’s media-on-demand, it also had to prevail in highly successful patent infringement actions against industry giants. When an industry giant appropriated Burst’s promising technology and incorporated it into its own products, Burst pursued the issues in court against this dramatically larger company, recognizing the need to protect the technology Lang had invented and patented. Three years later, the accused patent infringer settled by licensing the patents for $60 million. Richard Lang's Companies
