September, 2011
As an orthopedic physician and sports medicine practitioner, I specialize in the nonsurgical treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Before joining the Hennepin County Medical Center Department, where I currently serve as staff physician, I worked variously in the fields of industrial medicine, athletic medicine, and primary care orthopedics..I also possess 15 years of clinical experience in Level 1 Trauma Centers, which provide the highest level of emergency medical care for severely injured patients. Since I frequently work with patients who have musculoskeletal disabilities, I chose to become certified with the American Board of Disability Analysts (ABDA) in order to promote the highest professional standards in the diagnosis and treatment of disabling conditions.
Founded in 1989 to enhance the understanding of disabling conditions and improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities, ABDA has grown to become an interdisciplinary community of highly dedicated professionals. Members include practitioners in fields from medicine to applied economics, certified as either Disability Analyst and Fellow or Senior Disability Analyst and Diplomate. Additionally, ABDA offers a wide range of professional resources to meet the needs of its diverse membership body. Along with sponsoring an annual conference in conjunction with the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists and Psychodiagnosticians, ABDA publishes an annual newsletter to supplement relevant texts such as The Disability Analysis Handbook: Tools for Independent Practice and Disability Analysis in Practice: Fundamental Framework for an Interdisciplinary Science. Moreover, as a clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, I particularly appreciate the organization’s commitment to lifelong learning through continuing education opportunities and the American College of Disability Analysts.
