River Centre Clinic owner and Administrative Director Dr. David Garner has built an impressive career in the fields of psychiatry and psychology following his graduate training in psychology at Cleveland State University, where he received his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in 1972. Dr. David Garner then pursued his Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at York University in Toronto. Prior to assuming his current role as Administrative Director of the River Centre Clinic, Dr. Garner worked for over 25 years in various academic and professorial roles for several universities. Shortly after receiving his Ph.D., Dr. David Garner began as a Lecturer at the University of Toronto in the Department of Psychiatry. Over the next decade, Dr. David Garner moved up the academic ranks as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and eventually full Professor, before moving back to the United States to become a Professor of Psychiatry at Michigan State University. From 1988 through 2004, Dr. David Garner instructed students at Michigan State University, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Toledo. Dr. David Garner served on the Graduate Thesis Committee at Bowling Green State University and was the official Graduate Thesis Supervisor for the Department of Counseling Psychology and the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at Michigan State. Throughout his time as a professor, as well as his tenure with the River Centre Clinic, Dr. David Garner has maintained a prolific researching career; he has more than 170 publications to his name. Dr. David Garner is the co-author or co-editor of seven books on eating disorders, has authored numerous chapters for various clinical texts, and has had over 100 studies and articles published in medical and psychiatric journals. In keeping with his passion for research, Dr. David Garner continues to oversee all research conducted at the River Centre Clinic and the River Centre Foundation.
