In 1993, having been a broker in Lloyds for 10 years, Rob James finally escaped the world of paper passing and long hours. His decision to move into the very different forum of interior wooden shutters was not only brave but also life changing, and is a decision that he has by no means lived to regret.
? Having made his decision, Rob came across the longest standing shutter company in the UK, who happened to be looking for a buyer. He moved quickly, and within a week was the proud owner of Plantation Shutters.

Rob began single-handedly measuring, staining and fitting the shutters himself, cutting them down to size on a saw bench in the middle of his drawing room, and driving to Heathrow Airport twice a week at 5am to collect consignments.

But from small beginnings, Plantation Shutters has continued to expand over the last ten years to become one of the UK’s most prominent suppliers of wooden slatted shutters, and is set to continue along its successful path.

During this time Rob also set up, and is partner of a UK based shutter Distribution Company, ShutterCraft, which imports high quality shutters from a well-established Hong Kong company and is now the largest distributor of shutters in the UK, Plantation Shutters being one of its primary clients.
