  • Prepping for Prayer, Part 2
    November, 2010
    by Robert Morey

In this installment, we dispense more advice that will help you get more out of praying.

    Vernacular
Jesus and the apostles warned us that there are right ways and wrong ways to pray. If you do not pray according to Scripture, your prayers will not be answered.
Don’t use a weird voice when praying. Don’t pretend to be living in the 17 Century and pray with Elizabethan language. Be normal in your prayers. There is not need to shout and roll around on the ground. Go to www.faithdefenders.com and download my book, A Theology of Prayer. Beware of relativism that says that it does not matter how you pray or to whom you pray or what you pray about.
    Proper Position
Shutting your eyes and bowing your head in prayer in never mentioned in Scripture. Too many silly Christians get into car accidents by closing their eyes while driving their car. You can pray anywhere without shutting your eyes or bowing your head.

    Make a Request
Before going further, understand that God is not Santa Claus: do not ask Him for trivial things and expect them to be waiting at the foot of your bed when you wake up the next morning. That being said, there are biblical limits for what you can ask God for. Do not bother asking God to bless dating non-Christians, committing adultery, stealing money, etc. You can ask God to give you only what He has promised in the Bible to give you. If you have no biblical warrant for your prayers, this explains why prayer does not work for you.

    Conclusion
God has revealed in Scripture how to pray, when to pray, to whom to pray and even what to pray. Just as salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, prayer is be carried out by Scripture alone. There is too much foolishness and wickedness going in prayer. Don’t be ignorant but understand what God has commanded in Scripture.

  • Faith Defenders Sends Thousands of Books to Africa
, Robert Morey's Blog on Bigsight
    October, 2011
As Executive Director of Faith Defenders, Dr. Robert Morey works to spread the Gospel around the world. Dr. Peter Hammond asked Dr. Morey to donate a huge number of his books to Africa through his Frontline Ministries. After much prayer, Dr. and Mrs. Morey personally donated $250,000 of his books to be distributed throughout Africa to pastors, politicians, soldiers, Bible colleges, universities, Christian schools, and missionaries throughout the continent.

    public domain

Those who financially support Faith Defenders donated the money to help pay some of the enormous shipping costs to get the books to Africa. During Faith Defenders’ fundraiser, attendees donated one dollar for every book they wished to send to Africa. In the end, Faith Defenders was able to send thousands of books to Frontline Ministries, headed by Dr. Peter Hammond. The books included Fearing God, Encyclopedia of Practical Christianity, How to Answer a Jehovah’s Witness, Islamic Invasion, Muhammad’s Believe It or Else, Winning the War Against Radical Islam, and many other precious books.

Some of the beneficiaries of the fundraiser included the William Carey Bible Institute in Cape Town, South Africa, as well as Christian schools and missions in Zululand, Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the Sudan. National government, university and military leaders were give books on Islam. Other books will serve as prizes for winners of Bible exams and for those who demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities at Frontline Fellowship’s training courses, including the Biblical Worldview Summit.

When Dr. Morey retired from pastoring, he donated his extensive library, worth at least $250,000, to Master’s Seminary and College to be used as the main reference library for a new Master’s college in Northern California. John MacArthur’s schools now have the largest collection of books about Islamic studies, the cults and occult, and world religions in the Evangelical world.
