I earned a Master of Science in Real Estate Development & Investment with a focus in Valuation from New York University (NYU) in New York City. Albert Gallatin founded NYU in 1831 to supply the rapidly expanding city with opportunities for practical education and professional training. In the past 180 years, its student body has grown from 158 to more than 40,000, making it one of the largest private universities in the United States. In addition to its five major educational centers in Manhattan, NYU operates remote campuses and programs in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. Although the student body is large, the university is comprised of 18 separate schools and colleges, all of which are relatively small, granting students an intimate and welcoming experience. The Master of Science in Real Estate is offered by the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. The program focuses on achieving a balance between theory, practical application, and professional immersion, giving students valuable experience with all phases of real estate transactions from development to law. Graduates possess a deep understanding of the real estate industry as well as the analytical skills required for a successful career. The Schack Institute’s faculty consists of leading industry professionals who have extensive knowledge of today’s market and the issues associated with it. Students at the Schack Institute are deeply immersed in modern industry developments and future concerns placed within a solid theoretical framework. The Master of Science program also includes a mentoring facet that pairs students with professionals within its network of over 2,000 alumni. These mentors help students develop their expertise and forge their own unique place in the industry, while also introducing them to important professional development opportunities.

Mr. Noeldechen wrote ‘Time for a Workout,’ which appeared in the Ernst & Young Newsline Publication. Robert Noeldechen’s experience with implementing workouts is extensive. A workout is, in essence, the process a debtor must go through in order to meet the terms of a loan commitment. This normally involves creating strategic alternatives, such as a sale, fresh equity, modifications to existing agreements, or potentially a statutory restructure via a bankruptcy filing. The key is to create a strategic alternative that is mutually agreeable to all parties such as creditors and other stakeholders. Robert Noeldechen co-authored the article ‘Weathering the Financial Crisis – Five tips for real estate investors,’ which was published by Ernst & Young. Mr. Noeldechen explains the benefits and pitfalls of investing in real estate in a poor economy, clarifying that a weak economy is not necessarily detrimental to real estate investors. It is more than likely that investors will be capable of purchasing properties at deep discounts.
