Love it or hate it, you can’t ignore the oil and gas industry. The world’s seemingly insatiable thirst for energy grows with each passing year and oil and gas will almost certainly figure prominently in any short to medium-term solution. Rob works for Shell International’s Exploration & Production division on R&D programs aimed at providing long-term energy solutions while minimizing the footprint that such activities leave on the world. Specifically, his most recent work focuses on overcoming organizational hurdles and getting innovations plugged into Big Oil.
Rob has a B.Eng. in mechanical engineering from McMaster University in Canada, where he was the class valedictorian. He also has a SM degree in Technology & Policy from MIT and a PhD in engineering from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. He currently works in Shell as a Smart Fields Consultant, and moonlights as an Affiliated Researcher at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Strategy & Performance.
