Ronald Porzio is President of Porzio Consulting, a company that assists organizations and individuals in the best use of shared patient and physician decision-making and Joint Commission standards. Ronald Porzio is an advocate for veterans and injured active military, in addition to optimizing their access to both private sector and veteran healthcare and eligible veteran benefits. Ronald Porzio has been President of Porzio Consulting since August 2009, and he brings a number of years of experience as an innovator in hospital administration and management to his position. Ronald Porzio was also President of Ron Porzio Consulting from 2009 through the middle of 2010. During his tenure as President, he provided consultative support and patient advocacy for individual patients. As the Swedish Medical Center’s Administrative Director of Medicine from 2005 to 2010, Ronald Porzio managed physician practices at all clinics for internal medicine specialists, hospitalists, psychiatrists, and cardiology and pulmonary critical care physicians. He also managed the anesthesiologists at the Ballard Campus and at the Cherry Hill Campus and supervised the operations of Mother Joseph, a specialty care charity clinic that serves the under-insured. Ronald Porzio’s leadership helped the Swedish Medical Center collect millions in overdue payments, raise coding compliance by 90 percent, and establish safe around-the-clock hand-offs. Additionally, Ronald Porzio handled all contract negotiations and established pay for performance. Ronald Porzio was Director and Chief Operating Officer for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and regional office from January 2000 through January 2003. During his tenure, he introduced the use of Six Sigma methodology, which significantly reduced the time required for the veteran disability claims process. The time from the clinical exam, to verification of disability and final payment was reduced to 90 days from the national average of 240 days. Ronald Porzio’s team approach to preparation for the Joint Commission survey led to a successful score of 98 for hospital and national recognition. The eight best practices he published included an “alpha test” of the root analysis process (RCA) and a “fall response team” that reduced patient falls by 50 percent.
