Roy S. MacDowell, Jr.’s unparalleled instincts and sharp insight into the real estate industry have distinguished him as one of Massachusetts’s most prominent business leaders.

In 1969, while studying Entrepreneurship at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. founded The MacDowell Company, Inc. a landscape architecture and construction firm. Roy S. MacDowell, Jr.’s hands-on approach to the company’s operations, client relations, and project management has ensured its excellent reputation over the years.

In 1995, Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. established Boulder Capital. Specializing in real estate development and capital investment, Boulder Capital specializes in commercial, residential, retail and medical properties. Boulder Capital has developed large mixed-use projects, including Cronin’s Landing, Longview Place and the repositioning of the former Waltham hospital into Children’s Hospital Boston at Waltham.

Boulder Capital’s successes with the repositioning of the former Waltham Hospital and Cronin’s Landing attracted the attention of the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, which performed two case studies on the sites. At Waltham Hospital, Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. and the team at Boulder Capital transformed a failing hospital into the state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital Boston at Waltham. Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. and Boulder Capital were responsible for a similar achievement at Cronin’s Landing, turning a street suffering from urban blight into a pedestrian-centered mixed-use neighborhood.

Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. remains deeply engaged with charitable endeavors. At the moment, Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. is President of the Board of Trustees of the Rivers School in Weston, Massachusetts, and a Trustee of Children’s Hospital Boston. In addition to his work in real estate development and construction, Roy S. MacDowell, Jr. was the former Director and Principal Shareholder of Sterling Bank, which merged with Fleet Bank in 1993.
