Attorney Stephen B. Ruben earned his Bachelor of Arts from Bethany College and his Juris Doctor from Illinois Institute of Technology’s Chicago-Kent College of Law before launching a successful career in the legal profession. He is currently based in San Francisco, where he operates as Principal of Ruben Law Firm. Stephen Ruben launched his career with the City of Chicago, for which he served as Assistant Corporate Counsel. In this role, Stephen Ruben functioned as a trial prosecutor responsible for enforcing municipal ordinances concerned with zoning, health and safety, and pollution control.

He also served as a defense attorney for the City in cases regarding civil rights actions and challenges to the constitutionality of municipal laws. Transitioning into private practice, Stephen Ruben subsequently joined Jann, Carroll, Kruse, & Sain as an Associate Litigation Attorney. At this firm, he honed his skills in family law litigation, handling contested grounds cases based on fault as well as child custody and child support issues. He also attended to general civil litigation, such as proceedings involving real estate, probate, governmental affairs, and zoning and land use. Practicing general corporate law as well, he engaged in litigation for new business ventures and estate planning. In the same year Stephen Ruben began his employment with Jann, Carroll, Kruse, & Sain, he accepted an appointment as a Guardian ad Litem for the Probate Court of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court of the State of Illinois. Serving as a court-appointed probate guardian for minors, disabled persons, and adoption cases, he conducted investigations and prepared reports as well as recommendations.

He also functioned as a court-appointed fiduciary to deliver estimates. In ensuing years, Stephen Ruben also presided as a Special Administrator of Probate Court in the Circuit Court of Cook County in the State of Illinois, Special Assistant to the Attorney General for the State of Illinois, Principal and Shareholder of Stephen B. Ruben & Associates, Ltd., and Partner and Shareholder of Hill, Van Santen, Steadman, & Simpson. In these positions, he further developed his understanding of several areas of the law, with a special emphasis on family law.

Relocating to San Francisco, Stephen Ruben dedicated himself to a number of private practice and legal corporate roles before founding his own practice, Ruben Law Firm. Exclusively concerned with family law litigation, Ruben Law Firm specializes in domestic partnership, prenuptial, and postnuptial agreements as well as paternity issues, mediation, arbitration, and private judging. Ruben Law Firm also provides its services in complex, high-asset dissolutions, domestic partnership dissolutions, child and spousal support, business valuations and divisions, and property disputes.
