A noted attorney with accolades in the United States and beyond, Shereef Akeel maintains specializations in personal injury, discrimination, employment law, business litigation, civil rights, insurance, and other areas of law. Showing his promise at an early age, Shereef Akeel gained admission to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor pursuing undergraduate studies. Upon graduation in May 1987 from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Shereef Akeel chose to continue his education at Wayne State University in Detroit. As a graduate student at Wayne State University, Shereef Akeel split his time between positions as a certified public accountant and classes in business administration. Shereef Akeel earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University in April 1992.

Seeking further academic and professional development, Shereef Akeel enrolled at the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University College of Law), where he learned multiple facets of the American legal system and proved a standout doctoral candidate. After graduating cum laude from the Detroit College of Law in 1996, Shereef Akeel passed the Michigan State Bar Exam and earned admission to the U.S. District Court in the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. That same year, Shereef Akeel joined the firm Melamed, Dailey & Akeel, becoming Partner in 2000.

For the first part of his legal career, Shereef Akeel cultivated a proficiency in insurance law, serving clients throughout the State of Michigan. Following the events of 9/11, Shereef Akeel refocused his energy upon civil rights issues in America and has since become one of the country’s foremost attorneys in the field of discrimination. Along with seasoned attorney Glenn Valentine, Shereef Akeel formed Akeel & Valentine PLC in 2005.

Named to the list of Michigan Super Lawyers for the past four years, Shereef Akeel gained additional honors from Michigan Lawyers Weekly as a Lawyer of the Year in 2004. Shereef Akeel also won the 2006 President’s Award from the Center for Constitutional Rights, the 2006 Guardian of Civil Rights Award from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, and the 2005 Defender of Freedom Award from the American Civil Liberties Union. Shereef Akeel lives and works in Troy, Michigan.
