Goettle

Associate, Financial Services - PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP

Cambridge, Massachusetts

A native son of the Boston, Massachusetts, area, Stephen Goettle left the region for college but returned to Boston to settle, do his post-graduate work, and earn a living. An employee of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP for the past two years, Stephen Goettle attended Shady Hill School as a boy and then completed his high school education at The Roxbury Latin School, founded only 25 years after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth. A loyal alum, Mr. Goettle has supported the continuing educational goals of both schools ever since.

The same goes for Stephen Goettle’s college alma mater, Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina, where he relocated to study economics. Maintaining a 3.85 grade point average (GPA), Stephen Goettle earned acceptance into The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the academic honor society, and the designation of magna cum laude when he graduated with a Bachelor of Science of Economics. While at Duke, Stephen Goettle was an active member of the American leadership development group Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. In addition, he fulfilled the duties of a Justice on the Greek Judicial Board.

Even while studying in Durham, Stephen Goettle regularly returned to the Boston area for summer jobs. Over three consecutive summers, he worked as a Camp Counselor for the day camp run by Buckingham Browne & Nichols, the prestigious private school located just up the Charles River from Harvard University. In the summer of 2007, he served an internship as a Consumer Mediator for the Consumer Protection Department of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.

College graduation completed Stephen Goettle’s time away from New England. In 2009, he started post-graduate work in Business Administration and Accounting at Northeastern University, which culminated in two Master’s degrees the following year. Completing that program with a 3.9 grade point average (GPA) earned Stephen membership in the international business honors fraternity Beta Gamma Sigma. While at Northeastern, Stephen Goettle received an internship offer from the Boston office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, the global accounting firm perhaps best known for tabulating the votes for the Academy Awards each year since 1934. That internship segued directly into his current full-time position as an Assurance Associate in the Financial Services division.

  • The Foodie Culture of Traverse City, Michigan, by Stephen Goettle, Stephen Goettle
    November, 2011
One of America’s favorite vacation spots, Traverse City, Michigan, provides many choices for “foodies.” Its restaurants offer culinary selections to suit any palate. The Grand Traverse Pie Company produces 27 different types of fruit pie, with several variations on common fillings. The city prides itself on the multitude of specialty artisan shops that feature such foods as cured meats, gourmet popcorn, cheeses, homemade ice creams, and fresh-baked bread. Invested in its foodie culture, the town’s official website, TraverseCity.com, publishes a “Self-Guided Foodie Tour” that takes people through its best eateries.

In addition to these shops, every year, the city hosts a weeklong National Cherry Festival where people can buy hundreds of different cherry-based foods, including chocolate-covered cherry pits and cherry-infused soda, wine, mustard, meats, and barbecue sauce.

Breweries also constitute a major portion of the region’s specialties. Short’s Brewery Company develops beers utilizing chocolate, licorice, coffee, orange peel, and a variety of flavors depending on the season. Traverse City’s northern peninsulas serve as its wine country and feature over two dozen wineries complete with tasting rooms. For those who just want to relax, the 125-year-old Sleder’s Family Tavern provides a social atmosphere in a historic setting.

Traverse City contains many more attractions beyond its renowned food and drink. The area’s multiple options for relaxation and outdoor activities include watersports and sailing, as well as golf and hiking destinations.
