Auburn, California

For more than three decades, Steve Cader has protected his fellow citizens as a California Peace Officer. Steve Cader entered law enforcement in 1972 with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department. In just six years, Steve Cader attained the rank of Sergeant, followed by Lieutenant by 1981. Steve Cader served as the acting Substation Commander at Lake Tahoe before moving to the main Auburn Police Office in 1985. Focused on Patrol, Corrections, and Administration for Auburn, Steve Cader led searches as Captain and Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. After 24 years with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, Steve Cader extended his law enforcement management expertise to the Town of Atherton. Steve Cader was appointed Chief of Police, leading five department divisions of fellow sworn officers. During his tenure, Steve Cader revitalized several programs and created guidelines for newly implemented services. As Chief of Police, Steve Cader promoted swift action to Priority 1 calls, establishing and maintaining a 3-minute response time and a 52 percent preventive patrol time for his officers. Steve Cader also spearheaded a complete emergency plan for the entire city of Atherton and received a grant award for implementing the hardware and software for the “TRAK” child abduction notification program. Additionally, Steve Cader’s Police Department became the first in California to equip all patrol automobiles with heart defibrillators, thanks in part to fundraising completed by the community. Having retired from Chief of Police in 2000, Steve Cader remains active in the American Society of Industrial Security Law Enforcement Liaison Council, FBI National Academy Associates, and the FBI Leadership and Development Association, in addition to serving part-time with the California State Exposition Police Department in Sacramento. With concentration in Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Steve Cader has trained several personnel in various State and Federal agencies on responsible action, communication, and testing. Steve Cader also leads volunteer groups through disaster and rescue operations, providing policies for long-term disaster survival. For shaping law enforcement as a Peace Officer, Steve Cader was honored by the FBI Society of Police Futurists as a delegate to the first International Symposium on the Future of Law Enforcement.
