Mr. Kanzer served as co-founder and Chairman of Discovery Laboratories, Inc., the company that developed a clinical stage synthetic lung surfactant for infants who suffer from respiratory difficulties. Steve H. Kanzer was also co-founder and President of PolaRx Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., a start-up that developed TRISENOX (arsenic trioxide), a leukemia drug. TRISENOX set a new, unbroken Food and Drug Administration record of 30 months for completing the process that begins with investigational new drug (IND) filing and concludes with new drug application (NDA) approval. In 2002, Steve Kanzer co-founded Avigen, Inc., a gene medicine company that pioneered the use adeno-associated virus (or “AAV”) vectors to develop gene-based medications, now an industry standard in the gene medicine field. Mr. Kanzer has also co-founded two biotech investment firms, Accredited Equities, Inc., and Accredited Ventures, Inc.
