National Sales Manager, NComputing

Coto De Caza, California

Senior sales executive Steve Sickler has been involved in developing regional markets across a range of sales models and business environments for the past three decades. Graduating from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in management science, Mr. Sickler gained valuable sales management experience throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers (now part of IBM Global Business Services), Control Data Business Centers (now Ceridian Corporation), and Unisys (formally Burroughs Corporation). In 1991, he joined Viewstar Corporation (Now Global 360), growing the business-process management and workflow software application firm’s sales support staff from 2 to 12 over a 3-year period. Throughout the 1990s, Steve Sickler continued to work with innovative, growth-oriented ventures such as Tivoli Systems, Inc. which was acquired by IBM in 1996, and accounting-software focused PeopleSoft, Inc.

From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Sickler served as Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing with the information technology (IT)-infrastructure and applications management outsourcing firm Sitelite, Inc. Building from the ground up, he helped Sitelite, Inc. achieve status as the leading managed service provider in terms of revenue and customers. He also directed expansion efforts within the European market through an innovative marketing vision and sales strategy. From 2002 to 2003, Steve Sickler served as an independent Sales Management Consultant, specializing in the expansion strategies of emerging software companies such as Inasoft, Inc., Verisity, and Sendio. In 2003, he joined San Jose-based Selectica, Inc., which offers Global 1000 clients cutting-edge pricing, configuration, and contract management software solutions. Directing Western region sales as Vice President of Sales for two years, Mr. Sickler was responsible for generating revenue in 50 percent of Selectica’s $28 million U.S. market. He achieved substantial licensing-revenue growth while streamlining operations; the on-site/off-site demonstration model he developed reduced the ratio of pre-sales engineers significantly.

After two years with the Oracle-acquired firm BEA Systems, Inc., Steve Sickler moved into his current position with virtual desktop solutions provider NComputing in Redwood City, California. Since 2008, he has held responsibilities as National Sales Manager, North American Commercial, consistently exceeding revenue targets and driving sales to key corporate partners such as Weyerhaeuser and Nike. Steve Sickler enjoys a wide range of outdoor activities in his free time, including horseback riding, skiing, and mountain biking.

  • Desktop Virtualization and Its Uses
    October, 2011
    By Steve Sickler

Desktop virtualization separates a personal computer environment from its local hardware. By using a server computing model, a single desktop can be accessed remotely from various other systems, including other desktop computers, laptops, smartphones, and similar devices. Such a centralized arrangement allows for various improvements of organization and the ability to perform tasks requiring high processing power on lower-powered devices.

Virtual desktop infrastructure involves hosting a virtual machine on a central computer, creating an environment that can then be accessed by “thin client” systems, a configuration with numerous applications in a corporate environment. For starters, information is more securely held in a centralized location. Employees typically will not require new training to use these systems, because the differences are not readily apparent to the end user. Computers with virtual desktops can also be set up quickly, because vital applications do not need to be installed on every machine; instead, they are simply accessed via the thin client.
