Stuart's Status Updates

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Stuart Pivar has long been an important figure in the New York City art scene. An avid art historian, Stuart Pivar maintains a large private collection of Rodin sculpture, ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, and Renaissance paintings, works of art, and furniture, among many other important pieces. The scale and quality of Mr. Pivar’s collection has been profiled in the pages of Time Magazine, People Magazine, and the New York Times.

Outside of his own extensive collection, Stuart Pivar has done a great deal to advance art appreciation and education. In 1979, Stuart Pivar, along with longtime friend Andy Warhol, co-founded the New York Academy of Art. The fully accredited graduate institution, which Pivar and Warhol founded with the goal of revitalizing art education, is grounded in teaching traditional figurative art techniques. Stuart Pivar has also written much scholarly work on art history; in addition he is the author of “The Barye Bronzes: A Catalogue Raisonné,” considered the authoritative text on the bronze work of Antoine-Louis Barye.

Besides his considerable contributions to the art world, Stuart Pivar has shown a tremendous enthusiasm for the study of engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, and, most importantly, evolution, on which he has written several scientific texts.

Stuart Pivar founded Chem-Tainer Industries in 1959. The company produces large non-corrosive chemical storage vessels for a wide variety of industries in a dozen facilities throughout the country. Before founding Chem-Tainer Industries, Stuart Pivar studied chemistry at Brooklyn Technical High School and Hofstra University.
