With paintings appearing in shows around the country, Sydney Sparrow has found great success as a fine art painter and draftsman out of her studio in southern Maine. Sydney Sparrow was born in Chicago, Illinois, and lived in New York City for a time before moving to New England. With a lifelong passion for art, Sydney Sparrow has been making her living as a professional artist since 2003 and has been studying painting at the New Hampshire Institute of Art since September of 2010. Thanks to her excellent artistic and academic performance, Sydney Sparrow earned a position on the Dean’s List at the New Hampshire Institute of Art. In 2009, Sydney Sparrow was named “Outstanding Representational Artist” by Spotlight on the Arts Awards in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She has twice earned positions in the juried exhibitions at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art Contemporary American Realism Biennial. Sydney Sparrow’s paintings currently form a part of the permanent collection at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and she is represented by Elan Fine Arts in Rockport, Maine, The Banks Gallery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Bowersock Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In light of her charitable interests and the art community’s respect for her work, Sydney Sparrow has had paintings in a number of charitable auctions including the Annual Benefit Auction at the Florence Griswold Museum in 2006 and the Harvest Tasting Fundraiser for the Crotched Mountain Foundation in 2010. Sydney Sparrow has had a number of solo art shows, including 2009’s “Representing Real” at the Bowersock Gallery, 2008’s “Heart’s Desire” at the Bowersock Gallery, and 2007’s “Recent Paintings” at Elan Fine Arts. In addition to her solo shows, Sydney Sparrow has participated in several two person shows, most notably “Earth to Sky” at the St. Botolph Club in Boston, Massachusetts; “Beyond Beauty” at The Banks Gallery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and “Hand in Hand” at the Anderson-Soule Gallery in Concord, New Hampshire.
