A father of seven, grandfather, former pastor, and the chairman of a gospel choir, Terry Neven is perhaps best known for his support and advancements in the world of home school and self-education. The incredible dedication with which he supports home school families is a way of life for Terry. Despite his many titles, he manages to balance a full plate with grace and enthusiasm. He shares his love of Christ through his home school ministries. Terry has—throughout his life—felt a calling to serve by providing direction and leadership in the areas where guidance was most needed. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Southern California Community Bible College, Terry accepted a position as a youth pastor at Christian Community Center in Sunland, California. In both his pastoral and educational roles, Terry has set a godly example for many —whether the members of his congregation, or the countless families affected by his contributions to home school programs. Terry’s first involvement with homeschooling began in 1981, when—along with friends—he was among the first attendees at the first Christian Home Educators Association conference. In 1986, he founded Sunland Christian School, a national private home school program, and shortly after that, the California Home Educators Legal Defense in 1989. Since then, the California Home Educator’s Legal Defense (CHELD) has been a valuable force in the defense of homeschooling in California. Terry then took it upon himself to start the National Independent Study Accreditation Council, in 1997, with assistance from friends and colleagues in both home school and public schools. The National Independent Study Accreditation Council provides an accreditation process and self-governing standard for home educators.

As a nationally-recognized and honored home school expert, Terry has appeared in various forms of media as well. In addition to hosting and producing his own radio show—called “Educating Our Children”—Terry has appeared on national radio and television talk shows, to share his expertise on home school.

Despite his busy schedule, Terry and Laura Neven find time to spend with their family. One of his favorite pastimes is playing basketball with his sons. He also enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, and jogs to keep himself physically fit.
