An exceptional school system in Maryland, The Beddow School provides a Montessori method of teaching for children ages 2 1/2 to 12, in addition to a junior and senior high school program. The high school program at The Beddow School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and is taught by qualified teachers with a broad array of skills and specialties. At The Beddow School, the high school curriculum consists of the standard complement of courses designed to enrich students’ lives and prepare them for the world. The Beddow School provides pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and calculus classes. Other courses include literature, composition, drama, journalism, and creative writing. In addition, The Beddow School offers science, history, and foreign language classes. Students are expected to spend at least a half hour studying each subject at home, and independent reading and study is encouraged. The Beddow School also arranges extracurricular activities for its students, such as fund-raising, community service activities, and academic competitions. Enrollment
in both the Montessori and high school programs requires both an application
and interview, and--in the case of high school students--two letters of
recommendation and a transcript. Students are admitted to The Beddow School on
a first-come, first-served basis. Those who apply late may be placed on a
waiting list. The Montessori School is targeted at students aged 2 1/2 to 12.
At The Beddow School, students under age five will normally be paced in the
half-day classes, which operate from 9 a.m. until noon a.m., while older
students learn from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Day care and nap time services are
available for an additional fee. Quick stats
