About Thomas Jermoluk

Born and raised in Hawaii, Mr. Thomas Jermoluk was encouraged to pursue his passion for computer science by a high school math teacher. Thomas Jermoluk enrolled at Virginia Tech as an undergraduate, impressed by the school’s newly formed computer science program. After earning his Bachelor of Science in three years, Thomas Jermoluk remained at Virginia Tech for an additional year to study for his Master of Science.

Shortly after graduating with his Master’s degree, Thomas Jermoluk joined Bell Laboratories as a Research Engineer. During his five-year tenure at Bell Laboratories, Thomas Jermoluk focused on network architecture and UNIX design. In 1984, the Hewlett-Packard Company hired Thomas Jermoluk to play a key role in the creation of its new personal computer, which featured a bitmapped display, RISC processor, and UNIX operating system. Two years later, Thomas Jermoluk was approached by the Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Graphics, Inc., who asked him to develop an advanced graphics processor. After four years of distinguished work at Silicon Graphics, Thomas Jermoluk was named President and Chief Operating Officer. In charge of more than 12,000 employees, Thomas Jermoluk deftly managed multiple successful mergers and the release of a number of breakthrough products.

In the mid-1990s, Thomas Jermoluk became the Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of @Home, the country’s leading provider of cable modem Internet. Within a few years, Thomas Jermoluk engineered a merger with Excite, one of the top web portals, which remains one of the largest mergers in Internet history. Thomas Jermoluk later became a General Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, the foremost venture capital firm in Silicon Valley. Early in the 2000s, Thomas Jermoluk also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Hyperion Development, a real estate development company based in Miami, Florida, that built and marketed high-rise condominiums.
