Development Coordinator, Miami-Dade CountyMiami, FloridaThomas Marko offers years of growth management and development experience in his current position as Development Coordinator with the Office of the Mayor in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As the first individual to occupy this role, Marko has made a huge impact on the operations of the County government by creating more of a seamless and linear process out of a previously fragmented one. Thomas Marko functions as a link between the County and the development and business sectors in order to facilitate growth and development, leading to a better economy and a healthier county. He holds responsibility for the streamlining of the processes across planning, zoning, platting, public works, fire and water, and building, leading to a more efficient government. In order to further benefit the County, Thomas Marko established and guided a 17-member Blue Ribbon Customer Review Group as well as a 7-member Internal Review Group that conducted research and inquiry in order to create 102 recommendations for improvement with various processes. Thomas Marko worked directly with the school district during the implementation of the state-wide School Concurrency program, helping to make the transition as smooth as possible. Marko lent his presence and expertise to a group dedicated to advancing the construction of affordable housing. Furthermore, he has coordinated the expediting of hundreds of projects and business start-ups, including many small, medium and large residential, commerical, industrial and government projects in Miami-Dade County such as the Miami Intermodal Center, the Port Tunnel, and the Marlins MLB Ballpark. Thomas Marko began cultivating growth management and development experience as the Assistant to the County Manager, where he assisted in the oversight of land use, planning and zoning, public works, infrastructure, building, and transportation matters. He reviewed infrastructure and financial issues relating to roads, water, signalization, sewer, drainage, the Aviation Department at Miami International Airport, the Transit Agency, and the Public Works Department. Also in this position, Thomas Marko directed the review of fire hydrant needs throughout the County and developed recommendations on how to extend fire water supply service. Thomas Marko laid the foundations for his local government executive career by earning a Master of Public Administration from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
