About the Automotive Service Association, Thunderbolt Engines
February, 2011
For more than 80 years, Thunderbolt Engines has supplied quality automotive parts to professional and amateur mechanics throughout the country. Before Thunderbolt Engines opened its current production facility in southeast Houston, Texas, the company oversaw numerous remanufacturing plants and assembled rebuilt engines and other vehicle components for Sears Automotive, Montgomery Ward, and the Chrysler Group LLC. Over the years, Thunderbolt Engines phased out its larger remanufacturing operations; however, the firm continues to create superior rebuilt vehicle engines, transmissions, and cylinder heads, providing them at reasonable costs. To further its commitment to excellence, Thunderbolt Engines actively participates in trade organizations and certifying bodies, including the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and the Automotive Service Association.
Established in 1951, the nonprofit Automotive Service Association serves several thousand members nationwide by offering professional training and best practices resources; identifying honest, high caliber auto body shops and mechanics; and providing money saving advantages through marketing partnerships and other business services. Affiliates of the association also benefit from participation in influential industry conventions, like the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service and the International Auto body Congress and Exposition, and through advanced news networks, including AutoInc.’s Autolinks and Automotive Service & Repair Week’s e-newsletters.
For the consumer, an enterprise distinguished as a member of the Automotive Service Association typically maintains a high degree of reliability. Association-affiliated mechanic shops possess an average of 24 years in operation, while member collision repair facilities boast on average 32 years of active service. Additionally, Automotive Service Association members retain approximately 78% repeat customer business and roughly 95% of the shops benefit from family ownership. The Special Olympics Global Football Initiative, Thunderbolt Engines
March, 2011
An automotive engine rebuilder located in Houston, Thunderbolt Products regularly contributes to Special Olympics International. The organization offers a variety of athletic competitions for people with intellectual disabilities, including the well-regarded Special Olympics World Games. Special Olympic International also supports health care outreach programs for people with intellectual disabilities worldwide. In addition to its Olympics-style competitions and advocacy work, Special Olympics International supports outreach programs such as the Global Football (soccer) Initiative.
Founded in early 2008 by a group of Special Olympics volunteers, the Special Olympics Global Football Initiative partners with Street Football World and the Football For Hope Movement to provide competitive football opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Since its inception, the Global Football Initiative has grown to include more than 300,000 Special Olympics athletes in countries across the world. The goals of the Global Football Initiative are threefold: to reach a participation goal of at least 500,000 athletes worldwide, to improve the quality of coaching available to athletes, and to help participants develop valuable life skills they can use both on and off the field.
In 2010, the Global Football Initiative received support from three major world football clubs: Corinthians Paulista from Brazil, Inter Milan from Italy, and Tottenham Hotspur from England. With growing support from clubs like these, Special Olympics International hopes to introduce people with intellectual disabilities to the world’s most popular sport and help them become involved in athletic competition. Special Olympics International also recognizes the potential for football to change opinions about intellectual disabilities for the better. Over the course of three years, the Global Football Initiative has inspired football associations around Europe to include leagues and support people with intellectual disabilities, paving the way for other European athletic organizations, such as FIBA and the European Swimming League.
By promoting the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in football programs across the world, the Special Olympics Global Football Initiatives hopes to change attitudes about intellectual disabilities and build a worldwide football fan base. To learn more about the program and how to donate or volunteer, visit the Special Olympics International website at www.specialolympics.org.
