Studying abroad increases cultural awareness. In an increasingly more connected world, where business is done on a global scale and diversity plays an important role in nearly everyone’s lives, understanding the values and beliefs of other societies is vital. Exposure to new cultures makes us more conscientious, and less afraid of unfamiliar experiences and encounters. Plus, studying and traveling abroad provides personal growth, allowing us to look inside ourselves and determine what is truly important to us. Traveling and living in an unknown setting builds us as individuals, making us more self-reliant and independent. At Two Worlds United, studying abroad means experiencing new languages and educational programs. While traveling without studying does allow us to revel in exciting cultures, a quality foreign-exchange program expounds upon that experience, exposing its participants in detail to the history, literature, science, and language of a country. Two Worlds United pairs students with host families that are willing and excited to teach their guests their native tongue. Additionally, by attending school with peers of the same age, students learn about their country’s educational system, experiencing everything from local cafeteria food to unique field trips. Finally, colleges and universities look carefully at extracurricular activities, and studying abroad is no exception. Many collegiate recruiters recognize the value of living and studying in a new country, seeing it as an indication of maturity and open-mindedness.
