Tyler Spencer is in the final year of a joint program that has allowed him to spend his undergraduate career at both the University of Virginia and Georgetown University in Washington D.C. He is interested in international development from the angle of community mobilization and organization. In working on several grassroots projects both domestically and in southern Africa, he has come to focus on public health, environmental conservation, and education for critical consciousness. His latest interests lie in engaging American college athletes with sport for development and social change. He hopes to bring credibility and popularity to the academic study of the role of sport in culture and society and it’s potential as a tool to bring about educational empowerment and social and political change.
