    March, 2012
According to the Institute of Supply Management, the year 2011 ended on a positive note with the anticipation that 2012 will be even a bigger year in new orders, production, and employment growth.

United Patent Research, located in Olney, Maryland, is a product development company that specializes in helping clients succeed with their inventions. United Patent Research (UPR) welcomes this good news and feels that American corporations are embarking on a global strategy to sell American products internationally. After attending the International Housewares Show in Chicago and speaking to the independent vendors at the show, it appears that business is increasing in a multitude of fields.

“Inventors need to understand that they do not need to wait for an improved American economy when American companies can provide them with the opportunity to manufacture and sell their product all over the world,” Pat Ralston, President of UPR, claims.

United Patent Research has contracted with a licensing law firm, Universal Licensing, which has a track record of licensing over 100 products. UPR’s agreement with Universal Licensing (UL) is that United Patent Research will pay UL an upfront fee monthly to represent its clients strictly on a contingency basis. In the world of business, this is what we call a win-win situation, since both the inventor and licensing agent benefit together.

  • Patents are Worth their Money in Gold when Licensing an Invention
    April, 2012
Intellectual property is still America’s greatest asset. It gives America the cutting edge, making it the leader in innovative ideas and products. United Patent Research just attended the International Housewares Show in Chicago and it was evident that there will be many new innovative U.S. products on the market in 2012.

United Patent Research’s five-step program is at the forefront in developing and promoting innovative ideas and products. Their program is designed to take an inventor’s idea at its infancy and prepare, protect, and develop the idea so it’s ready to be presented
to major corporations. Inventors benefit from this process because it limits them from making mistakes and also greatly reduces the upfront out-of-pocket expenses in comparison to if they had to perform the same tasks on their own.

United Patent Research (UPR) stresses that patent protection is imperative when approaching corporations about a serious licensing agreement. Pat Ralston, President of UPR, says that it is important to have patent protection to help insure major corporations will keep their doors open in reviewing new ideas. The more patent protection you have in different jurisdictions, the greater territory the inventor has to offer when trying to license their product. In addition to obtaining American patent rights, UPR obtains European patents and Chinese patent protection for their clients.

Interested individuals may submit their ideas by accessing the United Patent Research website at www.unitedpatentresearch.net. It meets the toughest standards for online security and total product confidentiality. You can also read stories of UPR clients who have successfully promoted their products by visiting www.http://www.protectaproduct.net/html/inventor_stories.

  • What Patents are Best for my Product?
    April, 2012
In deciding what subject matter is patentable, it is also just as important to figure what type of patent is most suitable for an inventor’s product. There are certain types of patent applications that are geared to different types of protection on an invention. A utility patent protects the process of how a product works, and a design patent protects the look of the product. Which patent is better? Neither. The answer is which patent gives the inventor “the broadest protection”. Most inventors read erroneous information on the internet that a utility patent is better than a design patent. But if what you’re protecting or if what you’re claiming in the patent application is so narrow, then the utility patent would be absolutely useless. It is important to realize that a patent attorney represents an inventor just as a defense lawyer represents the accused. It is the patent attorney’s legal obligation to represent his client diligently in advising and prosecuting an application to give the inventor the broadest protection.

United Patent Research has agreements with patent law firms that represent the inventor, not United Patent Research (UPR). UPR guides inventors through a maze of product research and development, trademark hurdles, and the licensing of valuable patent claims to interested corporations. It is the patent law firms’ attention to detail and professional expertise that has earned UPR a reputation for excellence that is strongly sustained by its clients’ testimonials.

Further information about tradeshow attendance, obtaining a free inventor’s kit, and the importance of securing patent protection are available on the United Patent Research LTD. website at www.unitedpatentresearch.com.

  • Do I Need A Process Patent?
    April, 2012
Since 1998 an increasing number of patents have been issued to software and internet companies that have invented unique ways of doing business. For example, Amazon.com developed a method for expediting online orders, known as the “1-Click” system. The method allows a repeat customer to bypass address and credit card data entry forms. This made it possible for Amazon to access and retrieve that information directly from the customer’s account. Amazon was granted a patent on this business method in September 1999.
Pat Ralston, President of the research and development firm United Patent Research LTD., explains that it took a United States Supreme Court Decision to motivate the United States Patent and Trademark Office to create a new class of patentable subject matter. Rarely does the United States Supreme Court get involved with patent disputes. In the early nineteen eighties the United States Supreme Court ruled five to four that DNA gene sequences can be patented. This ruling became the cornerstone for much of the biotechnology industry.
United Patent Research LTD. is really a hybrid agency. They work with other companies as well as individual inventors to protect an idea if the invention is clever and unique enough to qualify as patentable subject matter. However that is only part of their mission. They also function as a surrogate for manufacturers who are looking for new products.
