A private investor, philanthropist, and former sales professional in the travel industry, Uta Staley divides her time between a number of different activities in and around her hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Commanding an impressive professional background, Staley finished her primary, secondary, and higher education in Germany, attending the College of the Ursulines in Darmstadt. Following the completion of her formal education, Uta Staley began a multifaceted career in the travel and tourism industry. Relocating to the United States, Staley continued to build on her professional experience and subsequently branched out into the fields of private investing and philanthropy. Today, Uta Staley maintains a diversified investment portfolio and shares her success with various worthwhile charitable and nonprofit organizations in Chicago and beyond.

A longtime member of the Ethiopian Community Association of Chicago, Uta Staley sponsors Ethiopian students who wish to attend college in the United States, funding undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and other universities. A noted museum and arts patron as well, she has made substantial donations to the Adler Planetarium, the Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum, the Chicago History Museum, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. In addition, Uta Staley has given to The Newberry Library, the Alliance Française de Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Botanic Garden, Lincoln Park Zoo, and The Huntington Library in San Marino, California.
