Troubled children and teens are just one of the many social groups that benefit from William Strong’s work as a therapist. His focus on families began during graduate school, when Strong received his degree in Social Work from the University of Denver. He then trained at the Colorado Institute for Marriage & the Family, and upon completion of his course work there he took a position with the Tennyson Center for Children. In this role, he worked to improve the experience of children in Denver’s public school system in the pilot year of the IDEAL program. Subsequent to his work in public schools, William Strong functioned as a Child and Family Investigator for the family court in Colorado. During his work in that capacity, he observed the interactions between children and their families at great length, since as a therapist he was responsible for advising the courts in divorce cases as to the best interests of the children. In addition to serving children and teens coping with the trauma of divorce, William Strong also assisted children and their families as they dealt with the debilitating effects of a loved one’s mental illness. As a therapist on staff in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Units, Strong counseled patients at The Children’s Hospital in Denver. Now, William Strong offers therapy to children and their families in his Denver-based private practice, Strong Solutions. He focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy, a style of treatment that is precise and defined, and often produces faster results than other, more open-ended styles of therapy. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, Strong works with his patients individually to guide them in identifying and responding to negative thought patterns that produce undesirable behavior. In the treatment process, the patient learns how to replace those negative thoughts with positive, productive responses, often resulting in dramatic changes in behavior. William Strong finds that his patients generally benefit most from this solution-focused approach to therapy.
