Throughout his life and career, corporate legal executive and investment management specialist Bill Woolverton has maintained involvement in an array of academic, professional, and personal endeavors. Raised in New York, Woolverton attended St. Bernard’s School on Manhattan’s Upper East Side before enrolling in secondary school at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. Graduating cum laude from Choate in 1969, Bill Woolverton went on to complete undergraduate studies in history and political philosophy at Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he also served as a member of the student government Judiciary Council and an Editor of The Amherst Student. Selected for membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society, Bill Woolverton graduated magna cum laude from Amherst in 1973 and subsequently won a Keasbey Scholarship to study at King’s College, Cambridge. For the next two years, Woolverton continued his studies in history, earning a B.A. and M.A. with honors. He then returned to the United States to work as an Assistant Counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments. After receiving his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1979, Bill Woolverton commenced a highly specialized legal career at major financial services firms and law firms, with a focus on investment management.

Following periods as an Associate at both Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP and Rogers & Wells, Bill Woolverton served as Vice President and Counsel for Alliance Capital Management Corporation. Woolverton then joined Putnam Investments, LLC, where he worked from 1988 through 2004. Over the course of his tenure with Putnam, he held senior roles as a Partner, Managing Director, and General Counsel; served on Partners and Executive Committees; and played an integral part in the development of new products, the structuring of strategic investments, ensuring client compliance with domestic and international regulations, and more. Since that time, Bill Woolverton has served as Senior Managing Director and General Counsel for Gottex Fund Management in Boston, where he holds membership in the firm’s Executive Committee and oversees legal and compliance issues.

Highly active in the Boston financial community, Bill Woolverton maintains affiliation with the Boston Hedge Fund Group and is a former member of the Investment Company Institute, where he served on both the Federal Legislation and United States Securities and Exchange Commission Rules Committees. When not working, he enjoys recreational activities and plays tennis, runs, and goes sailing whenever possible. Married with two children, Bill Woolverton lives with his family in the greater Boston region.
