Yoav Lurie is the Managing Director, Development in Teach For America’s Metro D.C. region. In this capacity, he leads the region’s overall development strategy, managing the fundraising team to aggressive goals in one of the organization’s fastest growing and highest profile regions. This year, Lurie’s team has exceeded top-line goals by 25%, achieving year-over-year growth of 175%, and securing mutli-year gifts which account for over 50% of the region’s total 17 year historical funding.

Before joining Teach For America * Metro D.C. in 2007, Lurie started and ran a division at the Redwoods Group, a socially-responsible commercial specialty insurance provider, working with Jewish child-serving non-profits. In the first 18-months of the program, Lurie’s team achieved 15% market share and exceeded revenue goals by 50% and net income goals by 266%. During this time, he also served on Redwoods’ Community Investment Board and created Redwoods Education Initiative, a program that linked Redwoods with Teach For America’s Eastern North Carolina region, catalyzing community fundraising and leveraging employees and company resources to aid ENC corps members. Lurie is on the board and has served as interim Executive Director of Camp Kesem, a national non-profit that starts and operates free summer camps for the children of cancer patients on 26 college campuses.

Much of Lurie’s extracurricular work revolves around developing a model for sustainable social change. In the summer of 2008, he will lead the launch of a new website dedicated to the topic, essentialintersection.org.

Yoav Lurie holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, with foci in Markets and Management and Ethics and Leadership.
